Nintendo has announced this morning that from early March they will be allowing players to use Club Nintendo Gold Points as a payment method in the Nintendo eShop.

Much like a store Reward Card, Gold Points are accrued by making purchases, either physical or digital, for your Nintendo Console.

Downloads: 5%

Nintendo Switch games and DLC on Nintendo eShop:
5% of the total paid amount

Nintendo 3DS games and Wii U games on Nintendo eShop:
5% of the total paid amount

Download codes:
5% of the undiscounted Nintendo eShop price of the same content

Game Cards: 1%

Nintendo Switch game:
1% of the undiscounted Nintendo eShop price of that game

Gold Point = 1p (GBP)

With the ratio of 1 Point -> 1p (GBP), a £40 digital title will net you about £2 to spend back on the eShop, though those who purchase primarily physical releases will not be as lucky, only reciving the equivalent of about 40p.

With a shelf life of a year, launch day Switch customers have been eagerly awaiting for a way to spend their points before the expire in Mid-March, with all other rewards limited to 3DS and WII U. This will at least give them some solace that they'l be able to recieve something for their points.
